About Our Rating

Storyline: Pundarika Ranganthudu (Bala Krishna) is born on Krishna Ashtami and follows Lord Krishna in naughtiness. He gets obsessed to a prostitute called Amrita (Tabu) and mistreats his parents. His parents (K Vishwanath & Shivaparvathi) are upset by his conduct and compel him to get married. Lakshmi (Sneha) is a beautiful young woman in the adjacent village and a great devotee of Lord Krishna. She gets Lord Krishna in her dream and he tells her to marry Pundarika. But Pundarika refuses her, as he doesn’t want loose his flirtatious lifestyle. Lord Krishna plays his magic, he sends a Maya Chakra which makes him to marry Lakshmi. But Pundarika continues his illicit affair with Amritha. How Lord Krishna makes Pundarika Ranga realize the importance of parents and being faithful to wife, forms the rest of the story.

Casting Performances:
Balakrishna did wonderful job in both roles as devotee Pundarika Ranga & Lord Krishna. His getup and histrionics in Lord Krishna role are superb. The lady getup gets more applause from audience. Even though Mohan Babu played a small role, he made his presence felt with his dialogue delivery. Sneha did great job for her role. Tabu is good and did the justice for the role. Other heroines Archana and Suhasini have small roles. LB Sriram did not fit in Narada role. Brahmanandam, Sunil did comedy roles, others chipped in.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS
Story - Screenplay & Direction:

It’s a remake of NTR’s old classic film Panduranga Mahatyam. The story is about converting a mischievous young man into a great devotee by Lord Krishna. They have not changed much in the old film storyline. The scenes with Tabu in first half should have been smaller with less exposing. K Raghavendra Rao did his magic again in second of the film.

Other Departments: MM Keeravani music is good. Cinematography by Jayaram is precise. JK Bharavi dialogues are pleasant.

Analysis:
The hit combination of K Raghavendra Rao, MM Keeravaani & JK Bharavi continued its hit trend in devotional films, after Annamayya & Sri Ramadasu. Balakrishna's performance as Lord Krishna brings more audience to the film. The last half an hour of the film is packed with strong emotional content and mesmerizes the audience.
