About Our Rating

Storyline: Suri (Nagarjuna) is a popular don in the city where he is respected with a lot of reverence by the entire city. Raghava (Lawrence) is a loyal associate of Suri and will be treated like his own brother. Suri happens to meet Priya (Anushka) and falls in love with her. Stephen (Kelly Dhorji) – the biggest mafia don in Mumbai wants to gain control over Suri and his people. Stephen strikes a deal with Suri to join hands with him but Suri rejects the deal. Now the conflict begins between Suri and Stephen. The rest of the story is all about how Suri defeats Stephen.

Casting Performances:
Nagarjuna is very stylish and brilliant as Don. He suited the profile of Suri to the tee. His screen presence, charming looks, and performance in the film are outstanding. He did not give much significance to his glamour in this film. His hairstyle in this film is similar to his hairstyle in the film Geethanjali. He did carry entire film on his shoulders.

Lawrence is good in supporting character. He did justify his role completely with neat performance but he need to improve his histrionics a bit. He is the only source of comedy in the film. There is no need to talk about his dancing skills, he is excellent.

Anushka is pretty cute and very good in this film. But unfortunately her role is limited only for songs in the film. She is very glamorous in sarees. Her performance in climax episode is fine. Nikitha is limited only for couple of scenes and played a negative role. She is ok.

Kelly Dhorji who played the main villain role is adequate and provided fresh flavor. Jeeva and Chalapathi Rao as associates of Don are good enough. They did a decent job. Kota chipped in with a small role that goes up against hero.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS
Story - Screenplay & Direction:

There is no story in the film. The film is all about a Don who fights for his people against wicked. Don is a screenplay based film without any story. Screenplay of the film is commendable but falls into predictable format towards climax. Direction is fairly decent.

The following scenes are very well conceived in the film:

1) Nag’s introduction scene.
2) Villain playing a different game with opposition.
3) The confrontation between hero and villain before interval.
4) Climax fight

Other Departments:
Music is huge drawback of the film. Except couple of mass numbers the remaining songs are dull and weak. But background music is effective. Dialogues by Abburi Ravi are moderate. Photography by S Gopal Reddy is extraordinary. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh is precise. Stunts by Vijayan are superior. Production values by Sri Keerthi Creations are of high standards.

Analysis:
First half of the film is very good. Introduction episode and interval bang are highlights in the first half. Second half is also good but looses its tempo towards climax. Main strengths of the film are Nagarjuna’s performance, screenplay, nice background music and fresh episodes. On the flipside music is big minus of the film. Climax is abrupt and should have handled better. There are no boring moments in the film. Don is a commercial film which has appeal towards youth and A centers audiences. We got to wait and watch how the family crowds receive the film.
